The Osun State House of Assembly has unanimously endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election in the state.
During a plenary session held on Tuesday, all 26 members of the Assembly, comprising 25 from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one from the All Progressives Congress (APC), passed a vote of confidence in the governor's leadership.
The motion for the vote of confidence was initiated by Adewumi Adeyemi, representing Obokun State Constituency, and seconded by Taofiq Olayiwola from Ede South State Constituency.
Speaker Adewale Egbedun, who presided over the session, praised Governor Adeleke's achievements, particularly noting the occasion of the governor's 65th birthday celebration. The Speaker highlighted the governor's dedication to the development of Osun State through his impactful governance and commitment to his five-point agenda.
"As representatives of the people, we take pride in the governor's leadership and urge him to continue striving for even greater accomplishments," Egbedun stated.
During the session, lawmakers were invited to share their thoughts on the endorsement. Simeon Popoola, representing Boripe-Boluwaduro State Constituency, delivered a heartfelt tribute to the governor, praising his integrity and genuine nature.
"Politics aside, Mr. Governor is a plain-minded personality, loving and genuine. These attributes have greatly assisted him in his performance," Popoola remarked.
Following the motion and discussions, the Speaker called for a vote, which was upheld by the chamber, solidifying the Assembly's support for Governor Adeleke's bid for a second term in office.
This endorsement comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2026 gubernatorial election in Osun State, with Governor Adeleke now positioned as a strong contender with the backing of the state legislature.
