The kidnapping case of Nelson Adepoyigi, the Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, has taken a disturbing turn as the abductors have now seized two individuals who were delivering the agreed ransom payment.
According to reports, Bayode Loco and Isimeri, who volunteered to deliver the N5 million ransom, have themselves been captured by the kidnappers, who are now demanding N30 million for the release of all three victims.
Adepoyigi was abducted on Monday around 10 p.m. outside his residence in Ifon. The gunmen reportedly assaulted him before forcibly taking him away, plunging his family and political associates into distress.
Initially, the kidnappers had demanded N100 million for Adepoyigi's release but later reduced their demand to N5 million plus food items after negotiations. However, in a shocking development, they seized the ransom bearers upon delivery and have now escalated their demands.
A source from the community who requested anonymity revealed, "Those who took the ransom to them, as agreed during negotiations, were held by the same kidnappers. They have now turned around to demand a fresh N30 million before they can release all three of them."
Kolapo Oja, Chairman of Ose Local Council Area, confirmed the incident and expressed deep concern over the turn of events. He appealed for calm while assuring that security operatives are intensifying efforts to rescue the victims unharmed.
The situation has created renewed panic among Adepoyigi's family members and political circles, who had been hopeful of his imminent return following the payment of the initially agreed ransom.
This incident highlights the growing security challenges in parts of Ondo State and raises concerns about the safety of political figures in the region.
Authorities have yet to provide further details on rescue operations as the community anxiously awaits updates on the situation.
