The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has publicly criticized the Labour Party and its supporters during his ministry's performance presentation at the Ministerial Press Briefing held in Abuja on Friday.

While addressing attendees and acknowledging his colleagues, Umahi made pointed remarks about Labour Party members, particularly those who support the party's 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

"I don't want to be disobedient or be a member of Labour Party that are very disobedient," Umahi stated. "I want to commend my Minister of State, Works, my Permanent Secretary, and all the Directors. But greater commendation goes to Mr. President."

During his presentation, the former Ebonyi State governor highlighted the Sokoto-Badagry road project, describing it as a significant achievement of the current administration. According to Umahi, the project was initially conceived 47 years ago during the administration of former President Shehu Shagari.

"The good news is the Sokoto-Badagry. This was a dream of the Shagari administration about 47 years back. And it was supposed to be Badagry-Sokoto, but a very detribalised President directed us to change it to Sokoto-Badagry," he explained.

Umahi praised President Bola Tinubu for his vision and leadership, describing him as a man with "great courage and the power of dreams" who could undertake such a significant infrastructure project. The minister further commended Tinubu's overall performance since assuming office in May 2023.

The comments come amid ongoing political tensions between supporters of different parties following the 2023 general elections, with Labour Party supporters, often referred to as "Obidients," remaining vocal in Nigerian political discourse.
