The Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party has announced the suspension of its former Chairman, Pastor Dayo Ekong, and ex-Secretary, Sam Okpala, citing gross misconduct and violation of the party's constitution.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Rotimi Odunaike, Chairman of the party's Caretaker Committee, and Dorcas Omorodion, Secretary, the party also dissolved all Local Government Ward Executive Committees across Lagos State with immediate effect.

According to the statement, Ekong was suspended for six months for "gross misconduct and breach of the constitution of the party by holding the offices of the state chairman and national financial secretary at the same time."

The suspension extends beyond just the former chairman, as the statement further noted: "All the members of the erstwhile state executive committee are hereby suspended for six months for failure to uphold the Constitution of the Party and for anti-party activities."

The dissolution of local structures appears to be a sweeping reform, with Odunaike announcing that "All the Local Government and Ward Executive Committees in Lagos State appointed by the Pastor (Mrs) Dayo Ekong-led Exco are hereby dissolved and their members suspended for six months for anti-party activities, with immediate effect."

This development marks a significant shake-up within the Lagos chapter of the Labour Party, which has been gaining prominence in the state's political landscape since the 2023 general elections.

The party has not yet announced permanent replacements for the dissolved committees or detailed specific plans for restructuring its operations in Lagos State.
