Real Madrid's superstar Kylian Mbappe has etched his name in the club's illustrious history books by breaking a 71-year-old record previously held by the legendary Alfredo Di Stéfano.

The French international scored his 28th LaLiga goal of the season during Real Madrid's narrow 2-1 victory over Mallorca on Wednesday, surpassing Di Stéfano's record of 27 goals set in the 1953-54 season for most league goals in a debut campaign for Los Blancos.

Mbappe, who joined the Spanish giants from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, reached this milestone in just his 32nd league appearance. With two matches remaining in the season, the 25-year-old has the opportunity to extend his record further.

Dramatic Victory Keeps Title Hopes Alive

The match itself proved to be a nail-biter for Carlo Ancelotti's men, who needed a last-gasp winner to secure all three points. Mallorca took a surprising early lead through Martin Valjent in the 11th minute, putting pressure on the defending champions.

Mbappe equalized in the 68th minute with his record-breaking goal, before Jacobo Ramon scored deep into injury time (90+5') to complete the comeback and keep Real Madrid's title defense hopes alive, at least temporarily.

The victory comes at a crucial time for Los Blancos, who suffered a significant setback in their title ambitions following a defeat to Barcelona last weekend. Real Madrid now sits four points behind the Catalan club with just two games remaining in the season.

Barcelona Could Clinch Title

Barcelona could be confirmed as LaLiga champions as early as Thursday if they defeat local rivals Espanyol in the Barcelona derby. However, should they drop points, the title race would continue into the final two matchdays.

Despite the potential disappointment in the league, Mbappe's record-breaking debut season highlights the immediate impact he has made at the Santiago Bernabeu, following in the footsteps of club legends.

Di Stéfano, whose record stood for more than seven decades, scored 306 goals in 392 appearances for Real Madrid. Only three players have scored more goals for the club: Cristiano Ronaldo (450), Karim Benzema (354), and Raul (323).

With Mbappe's prolific start to his Real Madrid career, fans will be eager to see if he can eventually challenge these all-time scoring records in the years to come.
