The Grand Khadi of Jigawa State, Khadi Sani Salihu, has summoned a Sharia court judge and several court staff members to explain their unauthorized absences discovered during an unannounced inspection of judicial facilities.
According to a statement released on Thursday in Dutse by Abbas Rufa'i Wangara, Director of Publicity and Protocol for the Jigawa State Judiciary, the inspection was conducted as part of broader efforts to enhance transparency and accountability within the Sharia court system.
The Grand Khadi personally led the surprise inspection team, accompanied by Kabiru Gumel, the Acting Chief Registrar of the Sharia Court of Appeal. The team visited multiple judicial facilities, including the Yalwan Damai Sharia Court and the Higher and Upper Sharia Courts in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
"The judiciary operates on integrity and diligence," Khadi Salihu declared. "Any act of negligence or absenteeism without justification will not be tolerated, as it directly affects the public's trust in the justice system."
During the visits, several court personnel were found absent without official leave or prior notification, prompting immediate disciplinary measures. Those involved have been ordered to report directly to the Grand Khadi's office to account for their unauthorized absences.
Beyond addressing attendance issues, the inspection also served to review the functionality and operational standards of the courts. The Grand Khadi took the opportunity to inspect infrastructure and engage directly with staff regarding their working conditions.
While expressing concern over the lapses observed, Khadi Salihu also commended the dedication of many court officials encountered during the inspection. He urged them to continue exemplifying the principles of justice, fairness, and professional ethics that the judiciary stands for.
The surprise inspection highlights ongoing efforts by the Jigawa State judiciary to maintain high standards of professionalism and service delivery in its court system.
