The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Nigerian government of presenting a fake witness in the ongoing trial of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, alleging serious prosecutorial misconduct.

In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, IPOB spokesman Comrade Emma Powerful claimed that an individual identified as Prosecution Witness BBB (PW-BBB) is not a Department of State Services (DSS) personnel but rather someone affiliated with a law firm who has been "planted" by the government.

According to IPOB, the witness's name and statement were never included in the original list of prosecution witnesses provided to the defense team, describing this as a "last-minute substitution" that amounts to "trial by ambush."

"IPOB strongly condemns the Nigerian government's continued abuse of legal process and deployment of deception in the ongoing trial of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu," the statement read.

The group has called on Justice James Omotosho, who is presiding over the case, to "take judicial notice of this underhanded tactic" and prevent such practices from affecting the integrity of the court proceedings.

IPOB also addressed allegations about Kanu's detention conditions, asserting that he is being held in solitary confinement, which they described as "a standard DSS operational protocol." The group claimed that UK consular staff who periodically visit Kanu are aware of these conditions.

"We assure the public and the international community that the identity, role, and deception of PW-BBB will be fully exposed," the statement continued. "The Nigerian government must be held accountable for its continued manipulation of the judicial process. Justice must prevail. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must be released unconditionally."

The Nigerian government has not yet responded to these allegations. The trial of Nnamdi Kanu, who faces charges related to terrorism and treasonable felony, continues to draw significant attention both domestically and internationally.
