Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has issued a strong warning to the club's management against making what he considers a major transfer mistake this summer – allowing captain Bruno Fernandes to leave for the Saudi Pro League.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Evra emphasized the Portuguese midfielder's crucial role at Old Trafford, describing him as "the most important player in the team" despite approaching 30 years of age.

"I heard in Saudi they offered a lot of money to get Bruno and I think it would be a mistake to let him go," Evra stated. "People talk about his age, 30. No! He's the most important player in the team. I think if Bruno wasn't there, maybe we wouldn't be in the final of the Europa League."

The former United defender's comments come amid reports of substantial financial offers from Saudi Arabian clubs looking to lure Fernandes away from Manchester. Evra suggested that what the Portuguese manager currently lacks is a competitive squad, noting that the Red Devils need reinforcements across multiple positions rather than losing their captain.

Manchester United have endured a difficult Premier League campaign, finishing just above the relegation zone. However, they have managed to reach the Europa League final, where they will face fellow English side Tottenham Hotspur on May 21 in Bilbao, Spain.

Fernandes has been a standout performer for United since his arrival in January 2020, consistently delivering goals and assists while wearing the captain's armband. His leadership and technical abilities have made him a fan favorite despite the team's overall struggles this season.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Manchester United's decision regarding Fernandes could prove pivotal to their rebuilding efforts for the 2025/26 season.
