Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Nelson Adepoyigi, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ward 5 in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when the APC chieftain was kidnapped at his residence along Ifon-Owo Road within the local government area.
According to community sources, the kidnappers have established contact with Adepoyigi's family and are demanding a ransom of N100 million for his release.
The abduction has created tension in the agrarian community, with residents expressing concerns over what they describe as persistent security challenges in the area, particularly in communities within Ose and Owo council areas.
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and assured that security operatives are actively pursuing the suspects to rescue the victim unharmed.
Olayinka Ayanlade, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, stated, "I can confirm to you that the chairman of APC ward 5 was kidnapped at the entrance of his farm along Ifon-Owo Road."
"At the receipt of the report, the DPO Ifon, in collaboration with hunters, local Vigilante Group members, and Nigeria Army personnel, has launched a manhunt for the suspects," he added.
The police spokesperson further assured the public that every effort is being made to track down the kidnappers and bring them to justice.
This incident adds to growing security concerns in parts of Ondo State, where kidnapping for ransom has become increasingly common in recent years.
