The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, has issued a stern warning to officers against engaging in human rights abuses, including unlawful detention of citizens.
The warning came during a strategic conference held in Umuahia with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Heads of Departments (HODs), and Tactical Team Commanders in attendance.
During the meeting, CP Isa emphasized the importance of enhanced visibility policing across the state, directing officers to ensure that police presence is felt by citizens in all communities.
"I am directing all DPOs to strengthen collaboration with school authorities within their jurisdictions to identify and address peculiar security challenges," the Commissioner stated.
CP Isa further charged the officers to maintain professionalism in their duties and adhere strictly to lawful detention protocols. He specifically warned against police involvement in civil matters, stressing that no form of misconduct would be tolerated under his leadership.
The conference also featured an educational seminar on mental health awareness and effective stress management for police officers. This session was led by ACP Emelike Chinenye, the Officer in Charge of Medical services.
This directive comes amid growing concerns about police conduct and human rights practices across Nigeria, reflecting broader efforts to reform law enforcement practices and improve police-community relations in the country.
