Julius Abure, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has paid a condolence visit to the party's 2023 vice presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, following the death of his elder brother, Mustaph Baba-Ahmed.
According to a statement released by the factional National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, Abure was accompanied by several members of the party's National Executive Committee during the visit.
The late Mustaph Baba-Ahmed, who passed away last week in Medina, was interred in the Holy Land in accordance with Islamic rites. He was known as a first-class graduate and a successful businessman.
During the visit, Abure expressed his condolences and praised the virtues of the deceased. "I know that obviously, the death will leave a big hole in the family but we are trusting God to bring succour to the family and to provide for the young family he left behind," Abure stated.
In response, Datti Baba-Ahmed expressed gratitude for the visit during this difficult time. "The family is so happy and proud of the party. We are proud that the entire Labour Party came to condole with us. We thank you for showing empathy with us," he said.
BenriNews reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his team also coincidentally visited the bereaved family on the same day, highlighting the respect and regard held for the Baba-Ahmed family across political lines.
The condolence visit comes amid ongoing leadership challenges within the Labour Party, though political differences were set aside as party officials united to support their former vice-presidential candidate during this period of mourning.
