Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has revealed that his recent dissolution of the state cabinet was a strategic move to conduct a mid-term performance review and reposition his administration for better service delivery to the people of Niger State.
The governor made this disclosure while addressing journalists after the valedictory State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Minna.
According to Governor Bago, the decision became necessary following an assessment which revealed varying levels of performance among cabinet members. "It was discovered that some cabinet members had exceeded the Key Performance Indicators of the administration, while a few others had not," he explained.
The governor further elaborated on his decision, stating, "It was also discovered that some have strength in other areas and my administration needs to be rejigged to bring about the desired growth and development in line with the mission and vision of the New Niger Agenda."
While some former cabinet members will be reappointed, others will be reassigned to different portfolios that better match their strengths and capabilities. Despite the dissolution, Governor Bago expressed appreciation for their collective contributions, acknowledging that they had performed well during their tenure.
The restructuring has seen the governor retain key positions including the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, and Deputy Chief of Staff. Sources close to the government house also revealed that several special advisers were among other principal officers retained in the administration.
This cabinet dissolution represents a significant mid-term adjustment as Governor Bago seeks to reinvigorate his administration's commitment to the New Niger Agenda, which focuses on comprehensive development across the state.
