Many All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party in the region.

The defectors were formally received into the ADC fold on Sunday by Senator Abubakar Gada, a prominent leader within the ADC coalition, who described the mass defection as evidence of waning public confidence in the APC-led government.

Speaking at the reception ceremony, Senator Gada highlighted the severe challenges facing residents of Sokoto East and Nigerians at large, particularly regarding security concerns and economic difficulties that have significantly impacted agricultural activities, employment opportunities, and food security.

"Our people are battling serious security threats that have destroyed farming, our main source of income. This has caused poverty, unemployment, and hunger in our communities," Senator Gada stated.

The ADC leader emphasized that the increasing influx of new members into the party reflects a growing desire for political alternatives among citizens who are disillusioned with the current administration's performance.

"Many Nigerians are coming to ADC because they believe in our mission to rescue the country. The APC government's poor performance has forced people to look for hope elsewhere, and ADC is providing that option," he added.

This defection comes at a critical time when northern states, including Sokoto, continue to grapple with security challenges that have disrupted agricultural activities, which serve as the primary livelihood for many residents in the region.

Political analysts suggest that this movement of members between parties may indicate shifting political alignments ahead of future electoral contests, as opposition parties seek to capitalize on public dissatisfaction with the ruling party's handling of national challenges.

The ADC has recently been vocal about security concerns in northern Nigeria, calling for emergency declarations in states experiencing heightened insecurity and positioning itself as an alternative political platform for Nigerians seeking change.
