Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly dismissed the presidential ambitions of former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, describing his bid as "dead on arrival."
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today program, Wike responded to Amaechi's recent claims that he knows President Bola Tinubu's weaknesses and could defeat him in a presidential contest.
"He (Amaechi) knows he won't get the ticket," Wike stated firmly. "I read that he said he knows the weaknesses of the president, so he knows how to defeat him, but he also knew the weaknesses of the president in 2022 when the president defeated him mercilessly in the primary."
The FCT Minister further emphasized his point by adding, "Nigerians know the last person they will give a ticket to because they know it (Amaechi's bid) is dead on arrival."
Amaechi, who currently belongs to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has been rumored to be eyeing a presidential run in 2027. The former Transportation Minister has yet to respond to Wike's comments.
This exchange marks the latest chapter in the long-standing political rivalry between the two prominent Rivers State politicians, who have been at odds for several years across different political platforms.
Political analysts note that this early sparring could be indicative of positioning ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle, though much remains uncertain about how the political landscape will evolve in the coming years.
