President Bola Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to former military president, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), on the occasion of his 84th birthday celebration.

In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the former military head of state as a pivotal figure in Nigeria's socio-economic and political development landscape.

The President highlighted Babangida's distinguished military career, noting his significant roles as an instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Commander of the 4 Reconnaissance Regiment and Armoured Corps, Director of Army Staff Duties and Plans, and later as Chief of Army Staff.

Tinubu acknowledged that Babangida's administration was characterized by major infrastructure developments, including the construction of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, as well as economic reforms that significantly liberalized the Nigerian economy.

The President also recognized other notable achievements during Babangida's tenure, including the establishment of key security institutions such as the State Security Service, National Intelligence Agency, Defence Intelligence Agency, and the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Additionally, Tinubu noted Babangida's role in the creation of new states and the historic relocation of Nigeria's Federal Capital from Lagos to Abuja, which has significantly shaped the country's administrative structure.

In his birthday message, President Tinubu offered prayers for Babangida's continued good health, strength, and long life as he marks this milestone.
