The candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Adesola Elegbeji, has emerged victorious in the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency bye-election, securing a commanding 41,237 votes.

The bye-election, conducted on Saturday, was necessitated by the passing of former lawmaker Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, who represented the constituency until her death in January following a brief illness.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Kazeem Bello, who announced the results early Sunday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate garnered 14,324 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate received just 289 votes.

Breakdown of Results by Local Government

In Ikenne Local Government, where 17,477 voters were accredited, the APC secured a decisive victory with 10,227 votes, compared to PDP's 5,595 votes and ADC's 73 votes.

Remo North, with 9,374 accredited voters, saw APC dominating with 8,052 votes, while PDP managed only 992 votes. ADC and ADP received 37 and 43 votes respectively.

The largest margin came from Sagamu, where 32,574 voters were accredited. Here, the ruling party amassed 22,958 votes, with PDP trailing at 7,737 votes and ADC securing 179 votes.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner declared Elegbeji the winner, stating that she had fulfilled all requirements of the Electoral Act by securing the highest number of votes in the constituency.

Other electoral officials who participated in the collation process included Richard Abayomi Sobayo for Sagamu, Akeem Adekunle Makinde for Ikenne, and Matthew Wheto for Remo North.

This victory adds to recent electoral successes for the APC, which has also won bye-elections in Kogi, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Kano states.
