Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for approving a $125 million financing facility from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) for the Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development Project.
According to a statement released by the state government on Thursday, the approval was granted during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
The statement, signed by Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, detailed that Otti also extended his appreciation to the National Assembly, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of Economy, and the Vice President of IsDB for their roles in securing the facility.
The approved financial facility will support significant infrastructure development across Abia State, including the construction of approximately 126 kilometers of road network in Aba and 35.57 kilometers in Umuahia. Additionally, the funding will facilitate critical erosion control works within the project sites.
This development marks a significant milestone in Governor Otti's infrastructure renewal agenda for Abia State, which has faced considerable challenges with road networks and erosion control in recent years.
The $125 million facility is expected to transform the state's infrastructure landscape, particularly in the commercial hub of Aba and the state capital, Umuahia, potentially boosting economic activities and improving the quality of life for residents.
The approval comes at a crucial time when many states are seeking alternative financing options for development projects amid fiscal challenges at both federal and state levels.
