Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting wounded soldiers and the families of military and police personnel who lost their lives in counter-insurgency operations.
The governor made this pledge on Monday during a meeting with Mrs. Lilian Christopher Musa, President of the Defence and Police Officers' Wives Association (DEPOWA), at the Government House in Maiduguri.
During the meeting, Governor Zulum emphasized his administration's dedication to partnering with DEPOWA to provide comprehensive assistance to injured security personnel, widows, and orphans of deceased officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while fighting insurgency in the region.
"We recognize the immense challenges faced by our troops in their duty stations and understand the importance of creating opportunities for personnel to reunite with their families," Zulum stated.
The governor commended the military for their unwavering dedication and sacrifices in restoring stability to the North-East region, which has been plagued by insurgency for over a decade. He assured them of the state government's continued support in their operations.
Earlier in the meeting, Mrs. Musa briefed the governor on the "Thank You Troops" campaign, an initiative designed to honor the sacrifices of frontline soldiers and provide crucial support to their families. She also expressed appreciation for the Borno State government's ongoing assistance to widows, orphans, and other dependents of fallen security personnel.
The DEPOWA president highlighted the importance of such partnerships in ensuring that the families of those who paid the ultimate price for Nigeria's security are not forgotten or left vulnerable.
This commitment from Governor Zulum comes at a critical time when security forces continue to battle insurgency in the North-East, with many personnel making significant sacrifices in the line of duty.
