Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has made striking claims about his relationship with President Bola Tinubu, insisting that it was the President who offended him, contrary to popular belief.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today on Monday, Lawal addressed questions about the state of his friendship with President Tinubu.

When asked by host Seun Okinbaloye if they were still friends, Lawal responded: "Yes, of course. We are friends. You should be able to tell your friend the truth even on national TV. The last time I spoke with him (Tinubu) was July 2022."

The former SGF didn't hold back in his assessment of the situation, stating: "The problem with Bola Tinubu is that he thinks that I offended him. I didn't offend him. But he offended me. And he's full of himself. Because he thinks he's the so-called president."

These comments highlight the apparent strain in the relationship between the two political figures who were once considered close allies. The revelation that they haven't communicated since July 2022 suggests a significant rift that predates Tinubu's presidency.

Lawal's candid remarks come amid ongoing political realignments in Nigeria's political landscape, particularly among key figures who were previously associated with the current administration.

The former SGF did not elaborate on the specific nature of the offense he claims Tinubu committed against him, leaving room for speculation about the root cause of their fallout.
