Activist and presidential aspirant Omoyele Sowore has launched a scathing attack on former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, describing him as "a fool at 40" following Amaechi's claim that he could end corruption in Nigeria within one month if elected president.
The controversy erupted after Amaechi made the bold declaration during a recent discussion on X Space (formerly Twitter Space), prompting Sowore to question the former minister's track record in public service.
In a video shared by SaharaReporters, Sowore highlighted Amaechi's extensive political career, pointing out his apparent failure to address corruption despite holding several powerful positions.
"Amaechi said he would end corruption in one month. Amaechi has been a Speaker for eight years, governor for eight years making it 16 years," Sowore stated. "He was Minister for eight years, making it 24 years. If you deduct 24 from 60 what do you say? A fool at 40 is a fool forever."
The 54-year-old activist further accused Nigerian politicians of deceiving citizens with empty promises. He emphasized the urgency for youth involvement in politics, warning that time is running out for meaningful change.
"They are all deceiving you, yes we have alternatives and we have provided that we will participate but we are not bound by one alternative because we don't have time on our side," Sowore continued. "The clock is ticking and I keep telling the youths that we don't have time – you might be youth today but not youth forever."
Sowore also expressed concern about how Nigeria's challenging socioeconomic conditions have affected the physical appearance of many young people. "There are some Nigerian youths that when I see them, I'm 54 and when I see them they say that they are 24 and I ask, are we the same age? Because the system has made them not look their age anymore," he remarked.
This exchange comes amid growing political positioning ahead of future elections, with Amaechi reportedly eyeing a presidential run. The former minister has recently made several controversial statements about the current administration and his potential political aspirations.
