Pastor Abel Damina, founder of Power City International Ministry, has sparked conversation by declaring that men who split bills with their wives are not following biblical principles. The clergyman made these remarks during a recent appearance on the ÷234 Mzansi Podcast co-hosted by actor Ani Chinedu Emmanuel, popularly known as Nedu Wozabia.
According to Pastor Damina, while the practice of sharing financial responsibilities might be economically convenient in today's society, it contradicts scriptural teachings on a husband's role in the family.
"Any man who is insisting on 50/50 [splitting bills] with his wife is not acting Bible. He is not operating scripture," Pastor Damina stated firmly during the podcast. "It [splitting bills] might be economically convenient, but we've got to the word of God."
The clergyman emphasized that while women can contribute financially to the household, such contributions should be voluntary rather than an expectation or requirement. He urged men to rise up to the task of taking full financial responsibility for their families as prescribed by biblical teachings.
Pastor Damina's comments come at a time when modern relationships increasingly embrace financial partnerships between spouses, with many couples opting to share expenses based on income levels or other arrangements. His traditional stance highlights the ongoing tension between evolving social norms and religious teachings in contemporary Nigerian society.
The topic has generated significant discussion online, with some supporting the pastor's biblical interpretation while others argue that financial arrangements should be flexible according to each couple's unique circumstances and mutual agreement.
Pastor Abel Damina is known for his bold interpretations of scripture and has previously made headlines for his teachings on various aspects of Christian doctrine and lifestyle.
