Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Uche Secondus, has made a stark declaration that democracy does not exist in Nigeria, while warning that the country is moving toward liquidation under President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Secondus made these remarks during the public presentation of two books by veteran journalist Ike Abonyi in Abuja on Tuesday.

"We are still far from getting to a point where we can say we have democracy," Secondus stated. "We don't have democracy in our country. What we have is a platform for winning an election."

The former PDP chairman further emphasized his concerns about the country's direction under the current administration, saying, "Our country is gradually moving in the wrong direction to a place where you can say Nigeria is on the verge of liquidation presided over by Tinubu."

According to Secondus, Nigeria's democratic structure is dysfunctional, with political parties lacking ideological coherence and institutional continuity.

Opposition Coalition Forms Against Tinubu

Secondus' comments come amid growing concerns that Nigeria is drifting toward a one-party state, which has prompted the formation of an opposition coalition by prominent politicians.

The coalition adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in June as its official platform and is positioning itself to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 elections. The party's activities are reportedly gaining momentum across various states.

Several high-profile politicians are expected to compete for the ADC's presidential ticket, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi. Atiku's spokesman, Paul Ibe, has indicated that the party's delegates will ultimately decide who becomes the ADC's presidential flag bearer.

Political analysts suggest that the emergence of this coalition represents a significant development in Nigeria's political landscape, potentially offering voters an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress in the next general election.
