Human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, on Wednesday arrived at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters carrying a travel bag filled with personal essentials following a summons from the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit.
Sowore, who had earlier vowed to honor the summons "with a full house," appeared at the facility at approximately 12:16 p.m., accompanied by his legal team, A.K. Musa and Marshal Abubakar, along with numerous supporters who chanted anti-government and anti-Kayode Egbetokun songs.
The activist's travel bag contained toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, clothing, books, and other personal items—a symbolic gesture indicating his preparedness for possible detention following the questioning.
BenriNews gathered that the police summons, dated August 5, was issued in connection with allegations of forgery and criminal defamation outlined in a petition against the activist.
Prior to honoring the summons, Sowore had called on "revolutionary comrades, citizens of conscience, voices of resistance" to join him at the Force Headquarters, suggesting he anticipated significant public interest in the case.
This development comes amid growing concerns about the treatment of activists and government critics in Nigeria, with Sowore having previously faced multiple confrontations with security agencies over his activism and political positions.
The outcome of the questioning remains unclear as of press time, but the activist's prepared travel bag has sparked speculation about whether authorities intend to detain him following the interview.
