Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has made a passionate appeal to music superstars Wizkid and Tiwa Savage to join the ongoing campaign seeking justice for late singer Mohbad, emphasizing their influential positions in the Nigerian music industry.
During a recent Instagram livestream with fans, Ojo highlighted that Mohbad was inspired by these established artists to pursue a career in music. She stressed that it would be unfair if top artists failed to protect younger colleagues who look up to them.
"Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, I need you. These young boys, they come from the slums and ghettos just like most of you did, and they were inspired by you guys to become artists. And they have so much talent. Music is one of the talents that has put Nigeria on the map... These children are making us proud," Ojo stated.
The actress further emphasized the importance of protecting Nigeria's musical talents, saying, "Nigeria is blessed with talents, and we cannot allow any cult or anyone pull them down. We cannot allow anybody pull those children down because their music is what's giving us joy."
Ojo also expressed concern about history repeating itself in the music industry. "We will not allow what Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and 2Baba went through in the hands of record label executives and the authorities to happen to new generational artists," she added.
As BenriNews previously reported, rapper and record label executive Naira Marley has consistently denied allegations regarding his involvement in his former signee Mohbad's death. A Lagos State court recently dismissed a suit filed by Mohbad's father against Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, citing insufficient evidence linking them directly to the singer's death.
Despite these developments, the investigation into Mohbad's controversial death remains inconclusive two years after the incident, fueling continued calls for justice from various quarters of the entertainment industry and beyond.
