The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has firmly declared that he will not abandon the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), vowing to prevent what he described as "Buccaneers and Vampires" from taking control of the party's presidential ticket.

Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Monday, Wike emphasized his commitment to remain within the party until "the right thing is done," suggesting ongoing internal conflicts within the opposition party.

"Now what is the problem in PDP, if you are saying that you are an opposition party, are you not supposed to be the one to put yourself in order and fight the ruling party?" Wike questioned during the media interaction.

The FCT Minister claimed to have predicted the current challenges facing the party, stating: "What is happening in PDP today, have I not predicted it before now? I will not leave the PDP until the right thing is done."

In a particularly pointed remark, Wike declared: "I will not leave this party which I have done everything for, for the Buccaneers and Vampires. If I had left the party, the Buccaneers and Vampires would have taken over the party."

While Wike did not specifically name the individuals he was referring to with these terms, his comments come amid ongoing tensions within the PDP, particularly following his decision to work with President Bola Tinubu's administration despite being a prominent member of the opposition party.

The Minister's statements reflect the continuing factional divide within the PDP, which has struggled to present a united front since the 2023 general elections. Wike, who previously served as Rivers State Governor, has remained a controversial figure within the party due to his apparent collaboration with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

Political analysts suggest that Wike's latest comments indicate his intention to maintain influence within the PDP while simultaneously serving in the Tinubu administration, a position that has drawn criticism from some party members.
