Former lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, has raised serious concerns about the worsening state of hunger and hardship in Nigeria, stating that the situation is deteriorating daily under the current administration.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television's 'Politics Today' program on Friday, Melaye painted a grim picture of the nation's current economic reality, describing it as unprecedented in its severity.

"We are in a precarious situation in this country, like we have never been. It has never been this disastrous, it has never been this terrible," Melaye stated during the interview.

The former senator further emphasized the dire conditions faced by many Nigerians, particularly those in rural communities. "The hunger in this country is chartered; people are dying of malnutrition in the rural communities of this country. People are beginning to visit garbage centres to look for crumbs and food," he revealed.

According to Melaye, the current hardship experienced under President Bola Tinubu's administration is unprecedented in Nigeria's history. He expressed strong criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government, asserting that they were failing to lead the country in the right direction.

The former lawmaker's comments come amid growing public discontent over rising food prices, inflation, and general economic difficulties that have affected millions of Nigerians in recent months.

Economic analysts have pointed to several factors contributing to the current situation, including recent policy changes, fuel subsidy removal, and global economic pressures that have significantly impacted the cost of living for average Nigerians.

The government has yet to respond directly to Melaye's specific allegations about Nigerians resorting to searching through garbage for food, though various economic intervention programs have been announced in recent months aimed at alleviating hardship.
