The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially reaffirmed Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam (Makaman Tilde) as its duly elected National Chairman, emphasizing that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to recognize him as the legitimate leader of the party amid internal leadership disputes.
In an official statement released on the party's X (formerly Twitter) handle, the SDP clarified its leadership structure, stressing that INEC has maintained a clear and consistent position regarding the ongoing leadership issues within the party.
"The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has continued to maintain a clear and consistent position regarding the ongoing leadership issues within our great party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP)," the statement read.
The party highlighted INEC's constitutional role in overseeing political parties in Nigeria, stating: "As the constitutionally empowered body responsible for the registration, regulation, and oversight of political parties in Nigeria, INEC has remained steadfast in ensuring that all political parties adhere strictly to constitutional provisions and statutory requirements."
