The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Nollywood actress Omotola Odunsi, whose passing was confirmed on Thursday.

Fellow actor Akinola Akano, popularly known as Segbowe, broke the news through an emotional tribute posted on his Instagram page, expressing shock over her unexpected demise.

In his heartfelt post, Segbowe shared screenshots of his final conversation with Omotola, revealing that he had checked on her health shortly before her passing. According to the shared messages, the actress had indicated she was feeling better after a period of illness.

"Motola! Strange but I tried checking on you at the wee hours of that morning. You said you were FINE & BACK! This is a rude shock, Omotola! Journey well, sister. God be with your family," Segbowe wrote in his tribute.

Veteran actor Odunlade Adekola, under whom Omotola trained, also expressed his grief with a brief but poignant message: "Jesus Christ. RIP Omotola."

Omotola Odunsi had built a notable career in the Yoruba film sector of Nollywood, starring in several productions including "Lisabi: The Uprising," "Officer Adaeze," "Amonata," "Ayanmo Ire," and "Ifedayo."
