A joint security team has successfully rescued three kidnapped victims following an intense gun battle with suspected abductors at Shanga Hills in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The victims, identified as Muhammad Nasamu Namata (25), Gide Namata (20), and Hamidu Alhaji Namani (35), were abducted in the early hours of July 27, 2025, when armed men stormed Sangara village in a midnight raid.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the rescue operation was conducted on Thursday, July 31, by a combined team comprising police officers, Nigerian Army personnel, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operatives, local vigilantes, and hunters, under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer in Shanga.

"The team trailed the kidnappers to Shanga Hill, where they engaged in a fierce gun duel. Overpowered by the superior firepower of the security team, the abductors fled with suspected gunshot wounds, abandoning their captives," CSP Abubakar stated.

The victims were rescued unharmed around 3:30 pm and are currently receiving medical attention before their anticipated reunion with family members.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, commended the team's bravery and professionalism in executing the rescue operation. He emphasized the importance of continued synergy among security agencies in combating criminal activities in the state.

CP Sani also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to security authorities to enhance community safety and prevent similar incidents.
