A young man identified as Stephen Chidubem has been found dead after allegedly taking his own life at his residence on Abba Street, behind the Anglican Church in Saburi 2, Abuja.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, Chidubem hung himself using a rope tied to a ceiling fan in his home.

Emergency responders who arrived at the scene evacuated the body to Kubwa General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed his death. The deceased's remains have been deposited at the hospital's mortuary pending an autopsy.

Gambling Addiction Behind Tragic Decision

Investigators recovered a suicide note at the scene that revealed gambling addiction as the primary cause of the tragic incident. In the note, Chidubem apologized to his creditors and those affected by his financial troubles.

"Sorry to everyone who cared, I can't continue putting people in trouble because of my gambling addiction. Please forgive me Elvis, Paul, and all I'm owing. And you, Bishop Andy Ero, give the balance of ₦507,500 to Elvis or Paul," the note reportedly read.

Sources close to the deceased revealed that he had been battling a severe gambling addiction that had plunged him into significant debt and emotional distress over time.

This incident highlights the growing concern about gambling addiction in Nigeria, particularly among young people. Mental health experts have previously warned about the psychological impact of gambling debts and the importance of seeking help for addiction issues.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident as investigations continue.
