A Kano Magistrates' Court has ordered the remand of two men in a correctional facility following allegations of public disturbance and criminal activities in the Ja'en area of Gwale local government.

The primary suspect, Usman Isa, faces charges of impersonating a police officer with the intent to deceive and abuse members of the public, while his accomplice, Umar Tijjani, was arraigned for conspiracy, trespass, theft, and destruction of property.

Both defendants entered not guilty pleas when the charges were read to them during the court proceedings.

Presiding Magistrate Mustapha Abba Dandago has adjourned the case until August 29, 2025, ordering the defendants to remain in custody pending further hearing of the case.

Police impersonation remains a serious offense in Nigeria, often used to facilitate other crimes including extortion, unauthorized arrests, and various forms of fraud against unsuspecting citizens.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about criminal activities in Kano State and the importance of verifying the identity of individuals claiming to be law enforcement officers.
