Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dissolved his state executive council with immediate effect, retaining only the office of Chief of Staff, which will now be occupied by former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Moses Atagher.

The announcement came at the conclusion of the 12th executive council meeting of 2025, as confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Terso Kula. The dissolution affects all commissioners who have served in the administration for approximately two years.

Barr. Atagher, described as a seasoned administrator, previously served as the acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank before joining Governor Alia's cabinet as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

While addressing the outgoing commissioners, Governor Alia expressed his appreciation for their service and contributions to his administration over the past two years. He urged those who may not be reappointed in the expected cabinet reshuffle to remain loyal to the party and continue supporting his administration's agenda for Benue State.

Speaking on behalf of the dissolved cabinet, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve, describing their tenure as a valuable learning experience. All former commissioners have been directed to hand over to the permanent secretaries of their respective ministries to ensure continuity of government business.

This cabinet dissolution comes amid ongoing challenges in Benue State, including the situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who have recently staged protests demanding return to their ancestral homes, and security concerns in various parts of the state.

Political analysts suggest this move may be part of a strategic realignment of the governor's team to address pressing governance issues in the state as his administration approaches its mid-term.
