Veteran Nollywood actress and movie producer, Ego Boyo, has finally addressed the long-standing rumors about why she stepped away from acting at the height of her career.

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Boyo categorically refuted the widespread assumption that her husband had restricted her from pursuing her acting career.

"I left acting when I found out that I enjoyed producing more than acting. It was boring," Boyo revealed, addressing the speculation head-on. "The blogs wanted it to be something like my husband banned me from it, they wanted it to be sensational and it was not."

The 56-year-old actress, who rose to prominence in the early 1980s, became a household name following her memorable role in "Checkmate," a popular Nigerian television series from the early 90s. Her decision to transition from acting to production was entirely personal and career-driven, contrary to the narrative that had circulated for years.

Boyo's revelation provides insight into the career trajectories of veteran actors in Nigeria's film industry, where behind-the-camera roles are increasingly being embraced by on-screen talents seeking new creative challenges.

Her candid admission about finding acting "boring" compared to the more fulfilling aspects of production work highlights the diverse opportunities available within Nollywood beyond performing roles.

Since stepping back from acting, Boyo has established herself as a respected producer in the Nigerian film industry, contributing significantly to Nollywood's growth and development from behind the scenes.
