Ebonyi State Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has suspended 87 government officials for failing to attend an important government function, according to a statement released on Monday night.

The statement, signed by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, revealed that the affected officials include commissioners, senior special assistants, special assistants, and permanent secretaries.

According to the statement, the suspended officials have been directed to proceed on a one-month working suspension without salary as a disciplinary measure for their absence.

"The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has directed that the underlisted government functionaries proceed on a one-month working suspension without salary for failure to attend an important government function," the statement read.

While the specific government function was not disclosed in the statement, the mass suspension signals the governor's strict stance on official duties and responsibilities among state appointees.

This development comes as the Ebonyi State government continues to implement various initiatives, including preparations for the commissioning of the state's airport, for which the aviation ministry is currently training staff.

The suspension has raised questions about coordination within the state government and the implications for governance during the one-month period, as the affected officials represent a significant portion of the state's administrative workforce.
