Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure have called on the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to implement stricter monitoring protocols for contractors handling road projects across the state.

The committee, led by Adegoke Adeyanju, emphasized that enhanced oversight is necessary to justify the government's significant investment in infrastructure and ensure value addition for citizens.

During the ongoing mid-year budget performance appraisal held at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the lawmakers stressed the importance of strengthening internal monitoring mechanisms during both construction and post-completion phases of road projects.

The committee specifically requested a comprehensive list of all completed and ongoing road projects across the state to facilitate more effective legislative oversight.

Committee members, including Honourables Musefiu Lamidi, Babatunde Tella, Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, Dickson Awolaja, and Adebisi Oyedele, urged the ministry to accelerate road works in their respective constituencies. Meanwhile, Wahab Haruna specifically requested an extension of ongoing road infrastructure to his constituency.

The lawmakers also called for increased attention to the reconstruction of the strategically important Abeokuta–Abule Egba Road, while commending the ministry for improving its documentation of road projects in its mid-year budget performance record.

Responding to the committee's concerns, Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Adesanya, represented by Permanent Secretary Yusuf Oladimeji, highlighted several completed road projects that have contributed significantly to economic activity in the state.

Among the completed projects are the recently commissioned Oke Erinja–Ilobi Road in Yewa South, and Awokoya Road and Igbeba–Talbort–Yidi Lane in Ijebu Ode. Roads completed but awaiting commissioning include the Toyin–Giwa Hercules Road in Ifo, along with the Alagbole–Ajuwon and Akute–Ajuwon roads.

The Permanent Secretary assured lawmakers that additional ongoing projects would be completed once the rainy season subsides, allowing construction work to proceed more efficiently.

BenriNews reports that the Ogun State Public Works Agency (OGPWA) and the Bureau of Electrical Engineering Services (BEES) also had their budget performances reviewed during the same legislative session.
