Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has boldly declared that he faces no serious opposition in the upcoming November 8 governorship election, suggesting that his opponents are merely in the race to raise personal funds.
Speaking at an endorsement rally organized by stakeholders of Anambra Central Senatorial Zone in Awka on Saturday, Soludo expressed confidence in his reelection bid, describing his candidacy as a consensus choice for the state.
"I don't know who else is contesting in this election, but we heard that some people are contesting but we don't know who they are," Soludo stated. "They are not contesting, they are doing fund raisings. I hear they have been going around begging top politicians, ministers that 'you know I'm contesting for governor, please support me'."
This marks the second major endorsement for Soludo following a similar rally in Otuocha, Anambra East Local Government Area weeks earlier, where stakeholders from Anambra North Senatorial Zone also declared their support.
Zoning Arrangement as Key Factor
The governor emphasized Anambra's established zoning formula, which he claims has brought political stability to the state. According to Soludo, the governorship position has rotated from Central (Peter Obi) to North (Willie Obiano) and now to South (Soludo's zone).
"After South, power will shift to Central. Any one coming from South to contest against me wants power to stay in the South for 12 years," Soludo explained. "If anyone else from South gets to power, he will stay for eight years and that will delay the turn of the central. So, four more years for Soludo is better than eight years by anyone else, so that central can take their turn."
The governor expressed confidence in securing at least 90 percent of all electoral wards in the Central Senatorial Zone, reiterating his party's strong position in the state: "Anambra is APGA and APGA is Anambra."
New Government House Announcement
During the rally, Soludo also announced his official relocation to the new Government House, dubbed the "Anambra Light House City."
"I have officially moved into the Anambra Light House City. I moved there officially yesterday and I slept there last night, woke up this morning and simply strolled to this venue. You have not seen anything yet, we have more in line for Anambra people," he revealed.
The endorsement rally featured speeches from prominent stakeholders including Osita Chidoka, Okey Muo-Aroh, student leaders, and market and community leaders, all pledging their support for Soludo's reelection bid. Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, read a communique from the entire zone endorsing the governor.
