Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe over her claims of defecting from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

According to Olayinka, Senator Kingibe announced her defection from LP to ADC on July 12, 2025, but has failed to officially inform the Senate about the move before the legislative chamber embarked on its recess on Thursday.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Olayinka stated: "On July 12, 2025, Senator Ireti (alias Kingibe), announced her defection from Labour Party to ADC. 12 Days after, she is yet to make her defection official by presenting a letter to the Senate. Without this, she still remains LP Senator. And the Senate is now on recess till September 23, 2025."

The FCT Minister's aide drew parallels between Senator Kingibe and former LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, suggesting that "she is a member of the party by law but on social media she is in ADC."

"Now, abi nah Social Media defection Madam Ireti alias Kingibe do ni? Just like Mr ONE SHOE, Ireti is in LP by law, she is on ADC on Social Media. Gba ju e defection," Olayinka added in his post.

The Senate's recess until September 23, 2025, means that Senator Kingibe will have to wait for over two months to officially notify the legislative body about her defection if she intends to do so.

This development comes amid growing political realignments as Nigeria's political landscape continues to evolve ahead of future elections, with the ADC coalition gaining attention in recent political discussions.
