A man identified as Chiemelie Oborji has allegedly murdered a pregnant nurse in Umueri village, Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, in what appears to be a ritual killing.
According to community sources, the suspect lured the unidentified nurse to his residence under the false pretense that his mother needed urgent medical attention. Upon her arrival, the woman was reportedly killed, with vital organs removed from her body.
An indigene of the community posting under the name Iroko Ogbunike revealed that the victim's body was discovered dumped in a pit near the suspect's compound. The community member stated, "Unconfirmed news also suggest that parts of the nurse's body were missing, raising strong suspicions of a ritual killing."
A viral video circulating on social media shows community members recovering the deceased's body from the pit. In the footage, one of the youths involved in retrieving the body can be heard lamenting the "unjust treatment" and declaring Chiemelie Oborji "wanted in the entire community."
The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after committing the alleged crime. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Ogbunike community as residents grapple with the brutality of the attack.
As of the time of this report, the Anambra State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. Attempts to reach the command's spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, for confirmation were unsuccessful.
This incident adds to growing concerns about ritual-related killings in parts of Nigeria, where victims are targeted for body parts allegedly used in rituals believed to bring wealth or power.
