The newly appointed National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared his intention to expand the party's influence by bringing more state governors into its fold.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today on Wednesday, Yilwatda outlined his vision for the ruling party, emphasizing unity and growth as his primary objectives.

"My job is to unite the party and expand the party. We have 23 governors and are still counting. My job is to bring in more governors," Yilwatda stated during the televised appearance.

Leveraging Experienced Leadership

The new chairman expressed confidence in his ability to fulfill these ambitious goals, citing the wealth of experienced political figures within the party who will support his leadership.

"Fortunately for me, we have a lot of experienced former national party chairmen who are all here," he noted, adding, "Is it the former governor of Edo State, my immediate predecessor, or former governor of Nasarawa State? They are all in."

Yilwatda further emphasized the party's strong leadership foundation, stating, "I have experienced former governors, former Vice Presidents, and the starting eleven of the party are still intact."

Presidential Leadership Style

The APC chairman also took a moment to commend President Bola Tinubu's leadership approach, drawing parallels between the President's demeanor and his decisive governance style.

"Look at the body language of Mr. President, soft-spoken, calm, gentle, but look at how he is driving the country, taking tough decisions that people even fear to discuss," Yilwatda remarked.

This statement comes as the APC continues to navigate Nigeria's complex political landscape, with the party seeking to consolidate its position ahead of future electoral contests.

Political analysts suggest that Yilwatda's appointment represents a strategic move by the APC to refresh its leadership while maintaining continuity in its broader political agenda.
