President Bola Tinubu has announced plans to construct a new national secretariat for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, signaling a major infrastructure upgrade for Nigeria's ruling party.

The President made this announcement on Thursday while addressing the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

Tinubu directed the APC National Working Committee (NWC), the Progressive Governors' Forum, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to collaborate on the project.

"We'll look for an appropriate land to build a befitting secretariat," President Tinubu stated during the meeting.

The President further instructed the stakeholders to establish a committee that would be responsible for selecting a suitable location and overseeing the construction of the proposed national secretariat.

Currently, the APC operates from its headquarters located at 40 Blantyre Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja, which has served as the party's central administrative hub since its formation.

The announcement came during a significant NEC meeting that also saw Professor Nentawe Yilwatda officially sworn in as the new National Chairman of the party. Yilwatda, a former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and one-time APC governorship candidate in Plateau State, was nominated by Governor Hope Uzodimma and seconded by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.

The meeting was well-attended by key party figures including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and numerous APC governors, highlighting the importance of the gathering in charting the party's future direction.

Political analysts suggest that the new secretariat initiative may be part of broader efforts to strengthen the party's infrastructure ahead of future electoral challenges and to create a more modern administrative center for party operations.
