The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors' Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, on Wednesday hosted a strategic caucus meeting at the Bauchi State Governor's Lodge in Abuja, ahead of the party's crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday.

The closed-door meeting brought together five serving PDP governors, including Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.

Also present at the meeting were key national figures of the party, including the PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun; National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; and several members of the party's Board of Trustees (BoT).

BenriNews gathered that the caucus meeting was aimed at building consensus among party leaders ahead of the NEC gathering. Thursday's NEC meeting is expected to ratify critical decisions earlier taken by the National Working Committee (NWC), including preparations and direction for the forthcoming national elective convention.

Political analysts view this caucus meeting as part of ongoing efforts to foster unity within the party and strengthen its leadership structure as the PDP positions itself for the 2027 general elections. The meeting comes at a critical time when the party is working to consolidate its position as a formidable opposition in Nigeria's political landscape.

The outcome of Thursday's NEC meeting is expected to have significant implications for the party's internal cohesion and external strategy as it prepares for upcoming electoral challenges.
