Judith Amaechi, wife of former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, has vehemently denied allegations by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike that she received N4 billion monthly from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for women's empowerment and training programs.
Through her spokesperson, Dike Bekwele, Mrs. Amaechi described the claims as "absurd and baseless," suggesting they were politically motivated attempts to tarnish her reputation.
"Dame Amaechi did not and has never received four billion naira monthly payments from the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC," the statement clarified, addressing allegations made by Wike in an early July interview where he claimed she received a total of N48 billion to train Niger Delta women.
The statement further explained that the partnership between her Empowerment Support Initiative (ESI) and the NDDC was reciprocal, jointly funding human capacity programs for youths and women in the Niger Delta Region, supporting entrepreneurs, and developing entrepreneurial centers.
Mrs. Amaechi also challenged Wike's assertion that she had been indicted in a corruption probe involving the NDDC, calling it "preposterous" and "a mere figment of Mr. Wike's imagination." She dared the FCT Minister to make public his version of the forensic audit report on the NDDC where she or the ESI was allegedly implicated.
The dispute highlights the ongoing political tension between Rotimi Amaechi and Nyesom Wike, both of whom served consecutive terms as governors of Rivers State. Amaechi held office from May 2007 to May 2015 before handing over to Wike, who also served for eight years. Their once-cordial relationship has deteriorated into public accusations and counter-accusations.
This latest exchange adds another chapter to the long-running feud between two of Rivers State's most prominent political figures, with the NDDC's operations and funding now at the center of their dispute.
