The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that it has no preferred presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general elections, promising a level playing field for all aspirants seeking the party's ticket.

Political heavyweights including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi are reportedly eyeing the ADC's presidential ticket, although none has officially declared their intention.

ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi emphasized the party's commitment to fairness during a press conference in Abuja, stating: "We have no hidden agenda or preferred candidate. Everyone will have a fair chance in the race for the party's ticket."

The announcement comes as Nigeria's political landscape begins to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections, with major political figures exploring alternative platforms following previous electoral disappointments.

Atiku Abubakar, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the People's Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi, who ran under the Labour Party banner, both failed in their presidential bids against the eventual winner, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Political analysts suggest that the ADC, which has historically maintained a moderate presence in Nigerian politics, may be positioning itself as an attractive alternative for established politicians seeking a fresh platform for their presidential ambitions.

The party's open-door policy could potentially transform it into a significant third force in Nigeria's traditionally two-party dominated political system, especially if it successfully attracts high-profile candidates with established support bases.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party continues to face internal challenges, with reports of ongoing reconciliation efforts between warring factions, potentially weakening its position as Nigeria's emerging third force.
