The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has placed Nollywood actress Shirley Igwe on indefinite suspension following allegations that she physically assaulted a crew member during a film production.

According to reports, Igwe allegedly slapped a member of the Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria (CDGN) while on set, prompting immediate disciplinary action from the guild's leadership.

In an official statement issued to state chapter chairmen and the national chairman, the AGN cited "violence and indiscipline actions capable of discrediting the acting profession" as grounds for the suspension.

The statement further directed all AGN members to "refrain from participating in any film production involving her" while the investigation into the incident continues.

This development comes at a challenging time for the Nigerian film industry, which according to Igwe herself in previous statements, has been experiencing economic difficulties alongside the broader national economy.

The AGN, which serves as the regulatory body for actors in Nigeria's film industry, has increasingly taken firm stances against misconduct among its members in recent years as part of efforts to professionalize the industry and maintain standards of conduct.

Neither Igwe nor her representatives have issued a public response to the suspension or the allegations as of the time of reporting.
