Yobe Desert Stars Football Club have placed 20 players on the transfer list following their unsuccessful campaign in the 2024-25 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, the club announced on Saturday.
The Damaturu-based club failed to secure promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a disappointing performance at the recently concluded NNL Super 8 playoffs, prompting significant changes to their squad composition.
According to the club's statement, the mass disengagement of players is part of a comprehensive rebuilding process aimed at strengthening the team ahead of the upcoming season. The restructuring extends beyond regular squad members, with the club also terminating the contract of their captain and first-choice goalkeeper.
Despite the extensive changes to the playing personnel, Yobe Desert Stars have opted to retain their secretary and media officer, ensuring some continuity in the club's administrative operations as they prepare for the new season.
The decision comes at a time when several other NNL clubs are making strategic adjustments to their squads. Heartland FC have already announced their resumption date for the new season, while Warri Wolves were recently crowned champions of the 2024/25 NNL season.
Wikki Tourists, who dominated the individual awards at the Super 8 playoffs, have expressed confidence in their readiness for what they described as a 'tough' NPFL campaign ahead.
The new NNL season is scheduled to kick off in October, giving Yobe Desert Stars approximately three months to rebuild their squad and prepare for another promotion push.
