Former Senate President Bukola Saraki and 2023 New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso visited the gravesite of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State on Saturday to pay their respects.
The two prominent political figures made separate condolence visits to the family of the late former Head of State and offered prayers at his final resting place. Images circulating on social media captured the solemn moments as they paid their last respects to the former Nigerian leader.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria's President from 2015 to 2023 before handing over power to the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, passed away approximately a week ago in a specialized medical facility in London, United Kingdom. Reports indicate he had been hospitalized for an undisclosed illness for between 10 days and two weeks prior to his death.
The former president's remains were repatriated to Nigeria on Tuesday and laid to rest in his hometown of Daura in a ceremony attended by family members, political associates, and various dignitaries.
The visits by Saraki and Kwankwaso highlight the continued outpouring of respect and condolences from across Nigeria's political spectrum following Buhari's death. Both leaders extended their sympathies to the bereaved family during their time in Daura.
Since the announcement of Buhari's passing, numerous tributes have emerged from political figures, with several special prayer sessions being held across the country, including one led by the Emir of Damaturu with Islamic scholars.
