The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has strongly condemned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for accusing President Bola Tinubu of exploiting former President Muhammadu Buhari's death for political advantage.

In a statement released on Saturday, Lagos APC spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, described the allegations as "baseless, reckless and in poor taste," emphasizing that the President's participation in memorial events and tributes demonstrated genuine loyalty and responsible national leadership rather than political opportunism.

"It is unfortunate that the ADC, in its desperate search for relevance, has chosen to trivialize a period of national mourning just to generate media attention," Oladejo stated. "President Tinubu's relationship with President Buhari was grounded in mutual respect, shared democratic ideals, and a commitment to national development. His participation in memorial events and heartfelt tributes reflect statesmanship, not opportunism."

The APC spokesperson further criticized the ADC for being disconnected from the national mood, accusing the opposition party of exploiting a solemn moment to provoke unnecessary division among Nigerians.

"Rather than show empathy, the ADC has resorted to cheap political theatrics. This is not only hypocritical but also dishonest, especially coming from a party with little electoral significance," he added.

The Lagos APC has called on the ADC to issue an unreserved apology to the family of the late President, the Nigerian public, and the Presidency. The ruling party emphasized that national unity should take precedence over partisan disputes, especially during a period of mourning.

"At a time when what the country needs most is unity, not divisiveness, we urge Nigerians to ignore such irresponsible commentary. We will not condone any further acts of disrespect toward the memory of a national icon. President Tinubu remains focused on governance, security, economic recovery, and preserving the legacies of those who served this country with honour," the statement concluded.

The controversy highlights the ongoing political tensions in Nigeria's democratic landscape as parties position themselves in the post-Buhari era, with the ruling APC defending the President's actions as appropriate gestures of respect rather than political maneuvering.
