Nigeria's Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) across the country are fully digitalised by December 31, 2025.
Walson-Jack made this declaration during her official visit to Nigeria's data centre managed by Galaxy Backbone in Abuja on Wednesday, emphasizing that the deadline for the transition to a paperless civil service remains non-negotiable.
During the visit, she highlighted the urgency of completing the digital transformation initiative, which is a key component of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025.
"I'll start by letting you know that the strategy plan for the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025 ends this year," Walson-Jack stated. "They are resuming because this is the final sprint, and we must deliver results."
She further emphasized the significance of the deadline, saying, "December 31st is the target date, and we need to actualise what many of you heard me say in the last world press conference that I held just before the Civil Service Week, where I said that by December 31st, the Federal Civil Service is going paperless."
The Head of Civil Service sought collaboration with Galaxy Backbone to sustain the digital transformation efforts, recognizing the agency's crucial role in providing the necessary infrastructure and technical support for the initiative.
Professor Ibrahim Adeyanyu, Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, described Walson-Jack's visit as symbolic of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to digital inclusion in governance.
"It is symbolic of the shared national commitment to digital inclusion in core governance in Nigeria," Adeyanyu remarked. "We understand that a fully digital service is no longer an aspiration but essential."
The Galaxy Backbone MD also requested continued support from the Office of the Head of Civil Service to "activate and adopt digital infrastructures of Galaxy Backbone" and facilitate "the expansion of local area networks in offices of federal civil service."
Earlier in the event, Adeladan Rafiu Olarinre, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, commended Walson-Jack for her unwavering support towards advancing Nigeria's digital infrastructure development.
The digitalisation initiative represents a significant milestone in Nigeria's e-governance journey, aimed at improving efficiency, reducing bureaucracy, and enhancing service delivery across all government agencies.
