Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, celebrated his victory at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday in a unique way - by sharing a meal of amala and ewedu soup with bricklayers at a construction site.

The court had discharged and acquitted Fayose of all charges in the N6.9 billion money laundering case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a video shared on social media, Fayose was seen enjoying the local delicacy alongside construction workers, expressing gratitude for his legal victory.

"We are grateful to God and that is why we are celebrating with Amala. Jesus Christ said these ones are my family," Fayose stated in the video, pointing to the bricklayers. "These are my family people, these gentle men here. We thank God for giving victory after seven years."

Court Ruling Details

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, who presided over the case, ruled that the prosecution failed to provide credible evidence linking Fayose to the alleged crimes.

"The prosecution failed to link the defendant to the alleged crimes in a manner that warrants this court to call upon him to open his defence," the court ruled.

The former governor had been on trial since July 2, 2019, when the EFCC first filed the case against him. The legal battle lasted approximately seven years before Wednesday's verdict.

The celebration video was shared by Lere Olayinka, spokesman for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, with the caption: "Fayose celebrates Court Victory, eating amala with site workers."

This verdict marks a significant legal victory for the former governor who has maintained his innocence throughout the lengthy trial process.
