Professor Farooq Kperogi, a Journalism and Emerging Media expert at Kennesaw State University, has made a startling claim that Aisha Buhari was no longer married to former President Muhammadu Buhari before his death.

In a detailed Facebook post on Wednesday, Kperogi alleged that the former First Lady had divorced the late president and reverted to her maiden name, Aisha Halilu.

"They had divorced, and Aisha reverted to her maiden name, Aisha Halilu. If you paid close attention, you would notice that Aisha didn't go to Daura when he retired to the town after leaving office," Kperogi wrote on his verified Facebook page.

The professor further claimed that evidence of their separation could be seen in Buhari's living arrangements after his presidency. "Buhari was also alone when he later relocated to Kaduna. In fact, when he fell ill and it was suggested that Aisha travel to London to care for him, she reportedly hesitated because she was no longer his wife," he stated.

Kperogi's allegations came in response to reports that Aisha had claimed Buhari asked her to seek forgiveness from Nigerians on his behalf. While the professor acknowledged he could not verify the authenticity of these quotes, he maintained his position on the couple's marital status.

This revelation adds a new dimension to public understanding of the late president's personal life, which had largely remained private despite his years in the public eye.

Neither Aisha Buhari nor representatives of the former first family have responded to these claims at the time of reporting.

The allegations have sparked discussions about the private lives of public figures and the extent to which such information should be in the public domain.
